About Little Box Gym

Little Box Gym was founded in 2013 by Sarah Morrison, whose goal was to create a space where people could come together and work towards their fitness goals.

This started as a small space with a few pieces of equipment, but it quickly gained popularity among the local community.

As the gym grew, so did its community of members who were passionate about health and wellness.

Today Little Box Gym is a thriving fitness community that continues to expand its reach and provide people with the opportunity to improve their physical and well-being through fitness.

The history of Little Box Gym

2013 - 2016

Started at 11 St. Werburghs Road

90sqft temporary structure

Little Box Gym was set up in 2013 with the idea of making fitness accessible to the general population. To take away anxieties surrounding being in a facility where people can often feel overwhelmed, intimidated and self-conscious.

Starting with a 90sqft space in the back garden, the dream started to become a reality and Little Box Gym had started to take off.

By 2016 we began to explore larger premises in order to grow the business and meet client need.

2017 - 2019

Opened at 136 St. Werburghs Road

Dream became reality and the business began to grow

We managed to secure 136 St. Werburghs Road and re-launched on 11th February 2017.

We went from strength to strength and by 2019 we had over 700 members, of varying memberships, attending the gym. Our classes were full, the gym was busy and the atosphere was fantastic. We often ran 3 classes at a time due to demand and were able to be open til late. We had 8 members of staff, 4 (including my gran!) on rota managing desk and admin, 3 instructors (myself included) and 1 (mum) being the upline for any admin or facility queries.

2020 - 2022

COVID

Lockdown

Closed

2020

COVID struck in 2020 and hit us hard. With all the uncertainty we had to close the business with no idea of what the future would look like not just for our business but for our clients too.

We worked alongside Manchester City Council to keep our community going. We measured out the area so we could conduct outdoor exercise safely.

Body weight exercises to begin with so that clients felt safe exercising and mentally better for moving and being outdoors.

2021

We continued to work alongside the Manchester City Council and asked could we start to bring equipment into the mix. We got the ‘all clear’ to use certain things if clients weren’t sharing equipment and the items were easy to clean after each session.
